LEOS Students Projects Program

LEOS has established a new program to encourage and support students’ active participation in a team effort to conceptualize, plan, and implement a photonics systems project. The program provides three annual awards of $1500 each to support the development and demonstration of the project. A proposed project must involve a group of full time degree-seeking science and engineering students, sponsored by a LEOS member faculty advisor. Proposals are due before the CLEO Annual Meeting. The criteria for selection include merit and significant of the proposed project, thoroughness of the plan, number of the students involved and the feasibility of completing the projects with available resources. Proposals should specifically address the selection criteria, list other resources available to the project, and should not exceed five pages inclusive. A sponsorship letter from the faculty advisor must accompany the proposal. LEOS membership status of all participants must be indicated.

Preference will be given to projects involving LEOS student members. The LEOS Students Awards Grants committee will announce the award at the LEOS Annual meeting. The winning groups will present the results and demonstrate the project at the next LEOS Annual meeting (an additional $500 travel grant will be provided).
