Dear LEOS Member,

We would like to solicit your input regarding emerging technologies to be promoted by LEOS.

LEOS has formed an Emerging Technical Opportunities Committee whose charge is to identify emerging technologies that will be dominant in the lasers and electro-optics field in the five-to-ten year time frame. The committee is also directed to recommend specific steps that should be taken over the next several years to proactively nurture these areas. The aim is to keep LEOS positioned as the major professional society in all core electro-optic technologies.

We would appreciate your thoughts on specific emerging technologies we should consider as well as the steps that might be used to promote these areas within LEOS. Your input, in the form of a suggested technology or method of promoting such a technology, should be emailed to Gail Walters at g.walters@ieee.org with the topic heading of Emerging Technologies.

In evaluating which technologies that will be promoted, we will try to look at the size of the potential market, the extent to which an area is already being covered within LEOS or by outside organizations, and the potential impact of fostering this technical opportunity.

Thank you in advance for your much-needed input to the society.
